The Bengal Cat is a unique breed that was created from breeding an Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic cat. The result is a domestic cat that has the wild beauty and stunning spots of the Asian Leopard Cat. The name of the Bengal came from the Latin name of the Asian Leopard Cat, Felis Bengalensis.

    The first three generations of the Bengal to Asian Leopard crossing are referred to as the foundation generations. They are F1, F2, and F3. Foundation male Bengals are sterile and placed in select pet homes, while the females tend to be kept by breeders in their Bengal breeding programs.

    Fourth generation Bengals are considered domestic and can be sold as pets or breeders, and are eligible for entry into TICA cat shows. Fourth Generation and Beyond are called SBT Bengals. SBT Bengals show milder yet very dynamic personalities, enjoying human interaction and affection.

    Bengals are a wonderful breed because they have the exotic wild look of the Asian Leopard, from which they came, accompanied with the mild and companionable personality of the domestic cat. These cats do not require any special care. They are able to eat any good quality cat food available in pet stores, and can be vaccinated using the same vaccinations that work for other domestic or purebred cats.
